Day 3 of the Team SELF’s New Year’s Challenge is a
combination of isometric exercise and body weight exercises.
This strength workout is all about holding a position and
resting in between sets and moves, therefore, engaging the muscles you’re
working on while you’re staying still for 20 seconds.
It doesn’t sound like there’s a lot of flexing of muscles
but once you tried it, you’ll understand.
The first time I heard the word “isometric” was almost 3
years ago, I was turning 50 and I just tried Beachbody’s P90x3.
“Isometrix: A strong foundation is essential for overall fitness, so Isometrix combines isometric contraction with instability to make your core rock solid. Isometric contractions occur when the muscle neither shortens nor lengthens and the joint angle does not change, building static strength.”
Did that make sense to you?
Anyway, all I know is that I can feel the burn in my glutes and my
core.
I have been recovering from a leg phlebotomy (battle scars of motherhood) and just received a go-ahead from my surgeon. This 15-minute workout was easy enough - well, except the jumping squats.

Eating healthy is 80% of staying fit. Tonight's dinner is baked salmon ( soy sauce, lemon and dill) and sauteed spinach.
Let's do this - you and me together!
